History

Karl Hochstein of Heidelberg has operated as a general music retailer since 1863. From ca.1900 into the 21st century it has published mainly male voice choir works by local composers in Southwest Germany. Typical composers were: in 1900-1930 Bruno Sturmer, Breu, Baumann, 1930 to 80 Geilsdorf.
In addition, there were a few educational items for instruments in the catalog. For violin: Grabner's Fünf Stücke, Op. 10 (1920), Hugo Lutz's Die Grundlagen der Bogentechnik, Op.41, (1929). Fritz Fröbus' Student concertos Op.18, c 1921, Aus der Kinderzeit, and Lieder ohne, Op.16. For piano: Oskar Kohler reprints, Hans Hesse's Sonatinas (ca.1950) Fritz Kappel's Die Spieldose, Op.54 (ca. 1942), and Franz Zureich's Musikalische Skizzen, Op.31 (ca. 1910).
