Ongaku no tomo sha (Friends of Music Inc) of Tokyo started in 1941 when three music magazines merged into one. Since the war the company has had an educational music division, a magazines division, and an a-v division. They also have a 200-seat concert hall in Tokyo. They use the brand name On-tomo.
Between 1955 and 1962 they published a "World Music Collection " in 100 volumes (Sekai dai ongaku zen shu). A new edition was published between 1989 and 1992. This was similar to a pre-war collection published by Shunjusha.
